The Morris Estate has been special to me ever since my sister got married here a few years ago. I’ve experienced this venue as a guest and as a wedding photographer, and I’ve loved it from both sides. Tucked away in Niles, Michigan, it has so much built into one property, like the bright white chapel and getting ready spaces to the reception tent and acres of beautiful scenery for photos.
Because I’ve spent time here both personally and professionally, I wanted to put together a guide that goes a little deeper than just the pretty photos. If you’re considering a wedding at The Morris Estate, I’m sharing what you should know about the spaces, pricing, lodging, bar service, photo locations, and what it’s actually like from a photographer’s perspective, with plenty of photos from Maggie and Ryan’s spring wedding along the way.
Last updated October 2026: I’ve done my best to make sure the venue details, pricing, lodging, and policies in this guide are current. Since things can change, I always recommend confirming the latest information directly with The Morris Estate while planning.

The Morris Estate is a historic wedding venue on more than 600 acres of riverfront property in Niles, Michigan. It feels secluded once you’re on the property with tons of trees and open land, but everything you need for the wedding itself is conveniently close together.
The vintage white chapel has hosted weddings since 1938, with the reception tent just steps away. There are also dedicated getting-ready spaces, onsite lodging, and so much room for portraits. As a photographer, that’s one of my favorite things about The Morris Estate: you can get a ton of variety throughout the day.

The Morris Estate has a really distinct mix of spaces. That’s part of what makes it so fun to photograph! You’ve got dedicated getting-ready rooms, the historic white chapel, a tented reception space, and then the surrounding estate itself for portraits.
The bridal lounge is located inside The Chapel and gives you tons of space. There’s multiple hair and makeup vanities, two private changing rooms, a sitting area, and a 360-degree mirror room. The venue also has some nice getting-ready essentials like a steamer, ironing board, sewing supplies, and a Bluetooth speaker.
Maggie and her bridesmaids started their morning here getting ready before heading over to Blacksmith Lodge for pajama photos. Later, her mom and maid of honor helped her into her dress, jewelry, and shoes. Her shoes were actually the same pair her mom wore on her own wedding day! It made those little getting-ready details even more special to photograph.

The groom’s lounge is also inside The Chapel, but it has its own setup for hanging out before the ceremony. There are private changing rooms, large closets for suits, a sitting area, TV and Xbox, poker table, full-length mirrors, and even a mini putting green!
Ryan and his groomsmen spent part of the morning playing cards and just hanging out together. I love when getting-ready spaces actually give everyone something to do because those moments usually turn into some of the most natural photos from the beginning of the day.

The Morris Estate Chapel is such a clean and stunning space, and easily one of the most recognizable parts of the property. The historic white chapel is available year-round and can seat up to 180 guests in 20 pews plus standing room for the wedding party. It’s climate controlled and has an integrated sound system, indoor restrooms, and its original working steeple bell!
Inside, the white walls and windows keep everything feeling bright and simple, which photographs so beautifully. We even took advantage of the window light for a few of Maggie’s portraits before the ceremony.
Maggie and Ryan later exchanged vows here before walking back down the aisle together. Instead of doing the typical dip kiss, Ryan kissed Maggie’s hand on their way out, and I loved that it felt completely like them. Their guests were waiting outside afterward for a flower-petal exit in front of the chapel, which made such a fun transition into the rest of the celebration!

Just steps from the chapel is The Morris Estate’s 5,400-square-foot tented reception space. It can hold up to 200 guests and is available for weddings from May through October. For Chapel & Tent weddings, you’ll have access to the venue from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., which gives you plenty of time for getting ready, your ceremony, and the reception.
The tent already includes quite a few of the reception basics, too. Tables, chairs, cocktail tables, bistro lighting, an 18-by-18-foot dance floor, bar area, raised flooring, and a restroom trailer are all part of the rental. The sides of the tent can also be adjusted depending on the weather.
I also think it’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t feel like a random event tent dropped onto the property. It’s a true reception space! Having it right beside the chapel makes the transition from ceremony to cocktail hour and reception really easy for guests.

The Morris Estate has a lot more variety for photos than you might realize. Some of my favorite spots are right around the chapel, while others are tucked farther into the property and are absolutely worth making time for.
The chapel gives you a few totally different looks without going far. Inside, the white walls, wood floors, and window light make it such a pretty place for intimate portraits. Outside, the classic white exterior is one of those backdrops that immediately feels like The Morris Estate and works beautifully for both close-up portraits and wider photos that show off the building.

The road leading up to the chapel is one of my favorite spots for wedding party photos. The trees frame everything so naturally, and you can still see the chapel in the background. It gives you that sense of place without needing everyone standing directly in front of the building.

There are also plenty of open grassy and wooded areas throughout the estate for portraits. These spots are great when you want something more relaxed and natural, and they give us a little more room to move around without a lot happening in the background.
Maggie and Ryan even brought their dog, Russell, along for a few photos here, which made this part of portrait time even more fun!

If we have the time, I absolutely recommend heading farther into the property. Maggie and Ryan took about a five-minute golf cart ride with me, and we found some of my favorite portrait spots from the entire day, including a small wooden bridge over the water and the rustic covered bridge nearby.
It feels totally different from the chapel area, which is exactly why I love making time for it. You get a whole new backdrop without having to leave The Morris Estate property.

If you’re wondering what a wedding at The Morris Estate costs, venue rental currently starts around $2,500 and can go up to about $7,500, depending on the season, day of the week, and which spaces you’re using.
The lower end of that range is for Chapel-only weddings, while weddings using both the Chapel and Tent fall toward the higher end. That’s just the venue rental, though, so you’ll also want to budget for things like catering, bar service, florals, entertainment, rentals, and any other vendors you bring in.
There’s also a refundable damage deposit, and holiday weekends may have an additional surcharge. Pricing can always change, so I would definitely reach out to The Morris Estate directly for a quote based on your date, guest count, and plans.
*Pricing based on 2027 rates and current as of September 2026.

If you’re planning to serve alcohol at your wedding, bar service is handled exclusively through The Morris Estate. Outside bartending companies aren’t able to provide or serve alcohol here.
Bar packages are based on your guest count, drink selections, and length of service. The bar typically opens for cocktail hour, closes during dinner, and reopens afterward, with up to five hours of service. Non-alcoholic drinks are included, and there are additional service charges, tax, and a security fee to factor into the final total.
Because pricing can change, I recommend asking The Morris Estate for a current bar estimate when you inquire.

One thing I like about The Morris Estate is that you still have flexibility when it comes to the rest of your vendor team. You’re welcome to bring in your own caterer and other wedding vendors as long as they’re licensed, insured, and approved by the venue.
Your caterer will handle their own food-service setup, staffing, breakdown, and cleanup. They’ll also need to provide things like serving equipment, linens, china, flatware, and glassware unless you rent those separately. The main exception is the bar. All alcohol and beverage service has to go through The Morris Estate.
The Morris Estate also has its own decor rental collection with furniture, photo backdrops, dessert stands, card boxes, candle holders, signage, table runners, lawn games, and more. They have a full online catalog you can browse while planning, and couples who choose the Premium Package receive complimentary access to the venue’s decor inventory!

The Morris Estate has several on-site lodging options, which can be really convenient for your wedding party or family coming in from out of town. It also makes it easy to turn your wedding into more of a weekend without everyone needing to leave the property at the end of the night.
The River House is a six-suite bed and breakfast overlooking the St. Joseph River. Each suite has a private bathroom, and guests can also enjoy shared lounges, a game room, library, riverside terrace, walking trails, and breakfast each morning.
It could be a great option for immediate family or a few of your closest people who want to stay right on the estate.
Blacksmith Lodge is great for wedding parties and family. The private home has three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a full kitchen and dining room, living room with a fireplace, and space for up to 8–12 guests.
There’s also a patio and seasonal pool overlooking the gazebo, and the Chapel is within walking distance. Maggie and her bridesmaids actually came over here for pajama photos during the morning, which gave us a totally different backdrop without ever leaving The Morris Estate.

For smaller groups, The Morris Estate also has the Millstone Inn and Red Horse Inn. Each private cabin sleeps two guests and includes its own living space, kitchenette, fireplace, and access to the estate’s trails and covered bridge.
There’s a lot I love about photographing weddings at The Morris Estate, but the variety is probably at the top of the list. The chapel gives you that bright, classic look, while the road, open fields, water, bridges, and wooded areas all feel totally different in photos. I never feel like I’m trying to make one backdrop do all the work here.
I also really love that we can choose how far we want to explore depending on your timeline. There’s plenty of great photo locations close to the chapel, but if we have a little extra time, taking the golf cart farther into the estate is absolutely worth it. Those quieter few minutes away from everyone usually end up being some of my favorite portraits from the day.
And on a personal level, this venue will probably always feel a little extra special to me. My sister got married here a few years ago, so being able to come back now as a wedding photographer and document other couples here feels pretty full circle!

Maggie and Ryan had one of those May wedding days that felt like it was made for The Morris Estate. The weather was beautiful, everything was green, and the whole property felt so alive and beautiful. They started the day getting ready on-site before sharing a first look and private vows, which was equal parts emotional and lighthearted. Their dog, Russell, even joined us for a few portraits before we headed farther into the estate!
Their ceremony in the chapel was such a sweet one, followed by the flower-petal exit outside with all of their guests. From there, the celebration moved into the reception with a live harpist, heartfelt speeches, plenty of dancing, and little Purdue details throughout the night. They had Harry’s Chocolate Shop cups (Go Boilermakers!), and even a handmade Purdue-Opoly game gifted by family.
And maybe one of my favorite reception additions? A Vanilla Bean Creamery mobile ice cream cart! After hours of dancing, a cold scoop of ice cream was basically perfect. The whole day felt intentional, and it was such a fun example of how much personality you can bring into a wedding at The Morris Estate.
